________
The opening in 1954 of the Olivetti showroom in New York remains in the history of Italian design and architecture as one of the symbolic events of the affirmation of Made in Italy, and generally of the “Italian style”. At the top of the BBPR project for the showroom was the spectacular sandcast relief by Costantino Nivola. The artist’s itinerary – born in Sardinia, but exiled in New York since 1939 – crosses a multiplicity of environments, making him a point of convergence of stories, projects, speeches and researches between the two shores of the Atlantic, which will influence largely on the construction of the image of post-war Italy and on the reception of Italian culture in the United States after World War II.
