“I chose these three words, flying, looking, building, because they define distinct periods in my work.
Flying refers to the early paintings between 1987 and 1993.
During this period, I moved from one subject to another without any particular desire for continuity. I just wanted to explore, to tell stories.
Looking corresponds to the period in which I devoted myself to painting objects depicted with precision, and it spans from 1994 to 2014.
Building encompasses the paintings in which I no longer work from a real-life model, but instead develop abstract constructions directly on the canvas.”
